Transferring the Learning

Transferring the Learning - the elusive idea of improving one act by practicing another, thereby speeding the learning process, is a common concept to both the Feldenkrais Method and Judo. Moti will illuminate this idea using the Rolling the Fists lesson, as taught in Alexander Yanai and the Amherst Training.

3. Judo - the Art of Defense and Attack -1941

In this workshop we'll meet Moshe Feldenkrais at his next milestone - bringing his Judo to England and presenting his book Judo - the Art of Defense and Attack. Following Moshe’s instruction, we’ll move from an ATM lesson to learning a Judo technique that will produce effortless but powerful body manipulation, coordinate arms, pelvis and legs, and control our balance.

1. Moshe’s Self Defense Method from 1930

In this six-workshop monthly series, Moti will explore the root of the Feldenkrais Method - Moshe’s experience as a martial artist. Each workshop will combine an ATM lesson and its applications, with a short PowerPoint presentation, talks about historical facts and findings to illustrate how Moshe’s expertise in Jujitsu and Judo form the foundation of the Method.

4. Practical Unarmed Combat, Secrets of the One-Technique Method - 1942

Moshe Feldenkrais challenged the conventional methods of self-defense and embraced the opportunity to test in practice the soundness of his unique scheme - confining learning to one technique, Hadaka-Jime (“naked hands choke”), which paradoxically provides fundamental skills, and creates options and freedom of action. In this workshop we’ll look inside the book, Practical Unarmed Combat, and experience Moshe’s concept of survival movements

2. Entering the World of Judo - 1933

Moti continues to follow Feldenkrais’ journey as a Budoka (follower of the martial ways) toward the development of the Feldenkrais Method. This workshop helps us to put the Feldenkrais Method in practice – discovering our own power and potent self, and exploring martial arts movements based on an ATM lesson.
